Know all the methods to change the WiFi channel on your router

Today we tend to use Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and, to a lesser extent, PLC to connect to the Internet. Without a doubt, of these three, our equipment is the one that is used the most, it is Wi-Fi. Smartphones, tablets, smart plugs, home automation devices, and IoT devices use it the most.

However, it may happen that in some regions, the Wi-Fi is very slow, or we do not have coverage. In many cases, it can be improved by changing our Wi-Fi channel. In this tutorial, we will learn how to change the Wi-Fi channel from a computer or smartphone.

The first idea we usually have is that we need to improve our network hardware. Therefore, we consider buying an access point or a WiFi Mesh system. This would not be the right way to start, because we may not need to buy anything.

What we need to do is start by checking the location of the router and changing the Wi-Fi channel. Then after these checks are complete, if we find that the router is not meeting our wireless expectations, it is time to start changing or improving our network hardware.

Preliminary Considerations, Router Place and Wi-Fi Channel Selection

Now we will briefly explain how to residence the router. Failure to do this correctly can seriously degrade the quality of the signal, and this can adversely affect our Cyberspace involvement. About the location of the router, we must consider:

During installation, place it as close to the center as possible so that the Wi-Fi signal can be well distributed.

Place it at medium height, not near the ceiling or on the floor.

The location of the antennas, if you have one, can also make a difference. They are usually best left in an upright position to give the plant more coverage. If you put it horizontally, the signal from the upper and lower floors will be better, but on the floor where you are, it will lose range.

Avoid placing it near electrical uses and cordless phone bases as they interfere with the Wi-Fi signal. As for how to know which frequency I should pick for my Wi-Fi network, the first thing to do is find out which Wi-Fi. Fi channels that use our closest networks.

The maximum useful thing would be to start categorizing all WiFi networks by RSSI, that is, by WiFi signal. Then we have to choose the channel furthest from the two or three networks closest to us. In terms of PC programs that we could use, we have WirelessNetView or an Android app like Wi-Fi Analyzer.

How to change the Wi-Fi channel besides finding out the access data to the router

Currently, we can choose one of the following methods to change the Wi-Fi channel:

Entering the router settings through the Internet from our Internet browser. This is usually done from a PC or laptop, although it can also be done from a smartphone, it is much less convenient. Its advantage is that it offers more customization options both for Wi-Fi and for other aspects such as opening ports.

Access to a portal created by an Internet provider.

Using an app from the router manufacturer.

Using an internet service provider application.

Next, we will explain how to obtain the II parameters necessary to access the router configuration:

The router's IP address is also acknowledged as the gateway.

Router password.

One way to bargain out is to look at the label under our router. Here in the red box is the ISP, in which I point out the two sections mentioned above.
